About

After graduating from Curtin University’s School of Film and Television in 1998, Simon started an unsuccessful and short lived career as a salesman for educational supplies. During this time he wrote, produced and directed successful short films for the Metropolitan Super 8 Film Festival. After quitting work to travel around Australia, Simon returned to Perth and started work as a camera operator for CMTV (Horse racing for Sky) and volunteer director/camera operator for the newly formed Channel 31, Perth. The inaugural Channel 31 Perth ident was co-written and co-directed by Simon and he took on the role of filming and directing the first series of its restaurant review show.

Despite reaching such dizzy heights Simon decided to move on in search of even greener pastures. So in February 2000 he found himself in Tokyo, Japan, teaching english. With a plan to stay 1 year in Japan in order to save money, he still managed to shoot some independent films and fully introduce himself to the digital age of editing and effects with Premiere and After Effects. By 2004, after much travel, food, sake, snowboarding, festivals, culture, new friends and getting married; he finally managed to leave Japan. A short stint as a production assistant in Toronto, Canada, convinced him that he was best served by heading to London, UK, in search of work.

Arriving in London in late 2004 Simon soon found work as a Final Cut Pro editor for Tilling Productions. His ability with After Effects, gained during his time in Japan, soon saw him leading the newly developed graphics department there. During this time he was able to use his creative initiative to develop, direct and finish animations and films to exacting standards for clients such as BP, the RFU and the Sport Industry Awards.

In 2008 Simon took on a new challenge and moved to Unit, the first all Apple production house in London’s Soho. His experience and creative vigour helped push Unit into the top 20 list of London’s post production houses that year. Working at Unit also introduced Simon to a range of new clients; such as the BBC, ITV, Apple, Connected Pictures, Red Bull, UMTV and many more; with whom he has continued to work with in various roles to this day.

Whilst working with Unit, Simon formed a small independent production company with a colleague, David Linton. The imaginatively titled ‘LintonHill Productions’ focused on music videos and music documentary. Starting with a small independent band with an equally minuscule budget they soon had work with companies such as Metropolis Music UK, Big Life Management and Connected Artists.

In 2010 Simon left Unit to focus more time on freelance directing and editing. He continued to work successfully as a freelance director and Avid editor for companies such as Razorfish, Run Productions, DesiMobi and UMTV.

In December 2012, after over 12 years away, Simon moved, with his family and dog, back to Australia. His primary objective, after enjoying a beautifully hot Christmas, is to continue to write, produce, direct and edit quality work for an Australian market.
